Thomas G. Lundquist, M.D., MMM, FAAP, FACPE

Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Thomas Lundquist is Chief Medical Officer for ValueHealth where he leads the evolution and expansion of value-based strategies to promote success and the best clinical outcomes for patients, providers and employers. Dr. Lundquist most recently served as Chief Medical Officer, Highmark Health Plan and Chief Medical Officer for Sentara Health Plans.

Dr. Lundquist is an experienced health plan senior executive with more than 24 years of progressive, strategic and fiscal leadership and operational responsibility in various health care sectors, working successfully within and for venture capital backed start-ups, growth phase early innovative companies, front line health care system operations, integrated health care delivery systems, pharmacy network and distribution operations, large hospital networks, staff model HMO’s, managed care organizations, large self-insured national and international employers, as well as with state and county governmental agencies.

His experience includes proven success within analytics, health informatics, care management, disease management, utilization management, pharmacy management, integrated care delivery, quality management, total cost of care management, sales and marketing, network contracting, network management, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, healthcare financial analysis, value-based care and innovative payment models.

Across his leadership roles, Dr. Lundquist has remained passionately committed and undeterred in pursuing the realization of what we now know as the Quintuple Aim – clinical quality improvement, payment innovation driving cost efficiency, reducing healthcare disparities and improving both provider and patient experience.

Dr. Lundquist completed his Doctor of Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and completed his internship and residency at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Medical & Surgical Center. He received his Master in Medical Management from Carnegie Mellon University and then joined the adjunct faculty at the H. John Heinz III School of Public Policy & Management at Carnegie Mellon University teaching courses in Health Care Quality and Executive Leadership for several years in the Masters in Medical Management program.

Dr. Lundquist has served and continues to serve on numerous Board of Directors in his career. In 2002, he was awarded the Caritas Flame of Hope “Heroes of Healing” by Catholic Charities in Pittsburgh. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physician Executives and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
